Steve Miller Band – A Great American Classic Rock Band

Steve Miller Band are one of the finest classic rock bands ever. Formed in San Francisco, California, United States of America in 1966 and revolving around frontman Steve Miller (lead vocalist, guitarist, keyboardist, and harmonicist), the band is well known for several blues rock and pop rock hit songs from the 1970s. However, they started off with a psychedelic rock sound throughout their late 1960s studio albums. The band’s initial name was Steve Miller Blues Band but it was shortened to Steve Miller Band after they were signed with Capitol Records in 1967. The band was briefly known as The Miller Band in 1967 as well. Subsequently, in early 1968 they recorded their first studio album entitled ‘Children of the Future’.

Throughout their lengthy career, the band had various line-up changes, with the only constant member being frontman, lead vocalist, and guitarist Steve Miller. They released 18 studio albums so far as well as 6 live albums, 7 official compilations (of which the most notable one is Greatest Hits 1974–78 issued in November 1978), and many singles (at least 29). Fast forward into the 21st century, Steve Miller got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

The band’s most successful studio albums (long plays or LPs for short) were the following ones:

  • The Joker (released in 1973);
  • Fly Like an Eagle (released in 1976);
  • Book of Dreams (released in 1977);
  • Circle of Love (released in 1981);
  • Abracadabra (released in 1982).

Below you can listen to a personal selection of my most favourite songs from the band’s discography. I truly hope you will like listening to them (in case you don’t know them and even if you know them already)! Thank you very much for your time, attention, and readership! All the best, take care, stay safe, and rock on!
