Electric Light Orchestra – A Great Progressive Rock Band

Electric Light Orchestra are a great British/English classic rock and progressive rock band from Birmingham established in 1970. The core founding members of the group are three multi-instrumentalist, more specifically Jeff Lyne, Roy Wood, and Bev Bevan. The music of this band is a mixture of progressive pop, progressive rock, orchestral pop, and art rock. Roy Wood parted ways with the group in 1972, thereby making Jeff Lyne the only leader of the band in terms of writing almost all of the original material, producing, and co-arranging every studio album. Regarding the origin of the name, it must be mentioned that it is a pun on electric light and light orchestral music. Light orchestral music was a popular genre of music on BBC Light Programme during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.

The band was initially musically active between 1970 and 1986, then briefly between 2000 and 2001, and once more since 2014 onwards. Throughout their long musical career, they were both commercially-successful and critically-acclaimed. They managed to sell more than 50 million copies of their albums worldwide. Over several decades they released a total of 15 studio albums as follows (listed in chronological order below):

  • The Electric Light Orchestra (1971)
