Boston – A Great And Legendary American Classic Rock Band

Boston was a great and legendary American classic rock band which was formed in 1975 in Boston, Massachusetts by Tom Scholz, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)-schooled engineer and very gifted and technical multi-instrumentalist. The band had been musically active from its year of foundation up until 2017. It mainly revolved around frontman and multi-instrumentalist Tom Scholz who, throughout the passage of time, had been the only original member of the American rock group in various line-ups, appearing on virtually all of the band’s albums. Boston’s music can be best defined as being an energetic, vibrant, and magical mixture of hard rock and arena rock.

The American rock group had their heyday during the late 1970s and early 1980s, starting from the very beginning with their legendary debut namesake studio album which was released in 1976. This LP was mainly recorded in an apartment basement studio which Tom Scholz set up throughout the early 1970s. Tom used a series of devices he invented for the recording process of Boston’s first studio album. In addition, he also played on most of the instruments on it.

They are best known and remembered for staples of classic rock such as More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Foreplay/Long Time, Rock and Roll Band, Smokin’, or Don’t Look Back. Throughout their commending musical career, the band released six studio albums, one live album, 2 compilations, sixteen singles, and four music videos. Their studio albums are the following ones:

  • Boston (their great debut self-titled studio album which was released back in 1976 and kickstarted their way to global stardom as legendary rock stars)
  • Don’t Look Back (1978)
  • Third Stage (1986)
  • Walk On (1994)
  • Corporate America (2002)
  • Life, Love & Hope (2013)

Throughout the passage of time, they managed to release an impressive number of copies of their records, more specifically 75 million worldwide and 31 million nationwide in the United States of America (USA). Their first two studio albums were the highest-selling records in the history of the band and, consequently, made them one of the best-selling musical acts in history. Since 1987, frontman Tom Scholz founded a charitable foundation by the name DTS Charitable Foundation and has been dedicating his time and money for a series of noteworthy charitable causes (among which, most notably, are animal protection, putting an end to world hunger, stopping homelessness and building shelters for homeless people, food banks, and children’s rights), a highly respectable decision for which he secured a soft and strongly esteemed place in my heart as a longtime fan of their band and of rock music in general.

Below you can listen to my most favourite songs from their discography embedded via YouTube. I truly hope you’ll like them as much as I do. Thank you very much for your time, attention, and readership! All the best, take care, stay safe, and rock on!

I listened to this particular great song a lot on repeat when I was abroad as an international student in my early 20s as its lyrics were really relatable (and I truly needed peace of mind over many other things):

P.S. On a personal note, I must also add the fact that I’ve been a sturdy fan of their music since at least my teenage years, having previously listened to them on the radio even as a kid back during the late 2000s.
