The Zombies – A Great British Classic Rock Band

The Zombies was a legendary British classic rock band founded in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England in 1962. They were initially musically active between 1962 and 1967. This great classic rock English group was co-led by the lead vocalist Colin Blunstone and vocalist and keyboardist Rod Argent (a founding member of the band who later on formed Argent, another great British classic rock band with which he enjoyed another successful musical career). They were initially known for a 1964 hit single which was quite successful in the United States and the United Kingdom known as She’s Not There. Subsequently, they enjoyed even more success in the United States with two other singles, more specifically Tell Her No (1965) and Time of the Season (1968). The Zombies band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. Overall, the group’s music throughout the passage of time was a mixture of classic rock, beat, baroque pop, psychedelic pop, rhythm & blues (R&B) as well as proto-prog.

The music of the Zombies had a major contributor in the person of none other than the legendary founding member Rod Argent, a very talented keyboardist and vocalist, who provided both instrumentation and lyrics to the group’s songs throughout the passage of time. He performed on a series of musical instruments such as Hohner Pianet, Mellotron, harpsichord, and organ as well. The Zombies’ musical career, although fragmented in time, managed to create an important and timeless niche in the history of rock music through their most popular songs, among which, most notably, is Time Of The Season, a very beautiful, touching, catchy, and funny song on love. Aside from their first period of musical activity, the group also performed in the following years or periods of time: 1968, between 1989 and 1991, 1997, and the last time between 2004 and 2024. The second studio album of the band, entitled Odyssey and Oracle (released in 1968), was included in Rolling Stone magazine’s 2012 list of 500 Greatest Studio Albums of All Time, peaking at number 100.

Over the years, the band released a total number of 8 studio albums, 8 EPs (i.e. extended plays), 6 live albums, 18 compilation albums, 24 singles, and 3 box sets. Their studio albums are the following ones (listed in the chronological order of their release):

1. Begin Here (this is the title of their debut album in the United Kingdom; otherwise, the LP was released as The Zombies in the United States with some differences in terms of total tracks between the two versions) (1965)

4. R.I.P. (2000)
5. As Far as I Can See… (2004)
